Most pets today are overweight. Many people think that dogs who are a healthy weight are too skinny because we have become so accustomed to seeing overweight dogs. Being overweight can cause pets to become sluggish, develop problems with recurrent lameness, and cause other health problems. Pets that are overweight can have a variety of reasons for being overweight just like people can. Dr. Brown will work with you and your pet to evaluate if your pet is overweight and, if so, what your pet’s ideal weight should be. He will review your past medical records, listen to your history with your pet, and perform a comprehensive exam to evaluate the possible causes for your pet being overweight.  He will then discuss diagnostic options as well as weight loss strategies that we can use together to help your pet lose weight. He will setup a schedule of regular weigh ins for your pet to determine if he/she is losing weight and if it is occurring at an appropriate rate.
